PCPF Members,

I hope this e-mail finds you all well and enjoying the frio up north. My name is Pete Caligiuri, I am a sustainable agriculture volunteer in Panamá Oeste, and the regional leader for Panamá Oeste/Coclé provinces.

I am writing in order to thank you all for your generous support of volunteer work in Panamá. I was the recipient of a SSPA grant during the September VAC meeting. The funds were solicited to support the training of farmers in rice tank and fish tank production. Thanks to PCPF´s monetary help we were able to send four representatives from our rice and fish tank farmers group in the district of Capira, Panamá Oeste to a 3 day rice and fish tank training at the National Institute of Agriculture/Ministry of Agriculture's Aquaculture station in Divisa.

The training was a great success, including both classroom work as well as practical, hands-on practice in the field. The farmers and I left much more confident in our knowledge and skills of fish and rice tank construction, maintenance and production. Upon our return home, the group immediately began work on two new fish tanks in addition to implementing new-learned rice production techniques on tanks we had constructed earlier in the year.

I speak on behalf of the entire group when I offer our heartfelt thanks for your assistance. As RPCVs you all understand how helpful small project assistance can be to getting very important projects off the ground and running. As a PCV I thank you all in advance for your future collaboration and support of volunteer work.

I am attempting to attach several photos in hopes of sharing some images of our work with you all.

Warmest Regards,

Pete Caligiuri
